Dreamflight

We believe it is important to bring some fun and joy into the lives of children whose illnesses have brought them pain, distress and disruption. We try always to select those children who would never otherwise have such an opportunity due to the level of medical care required and/or their social circumstances.

There are 16 children in each of the 12 regional groups, accompanied by a Group Leader, a doctor, physiotherapist, three nurses and two non-medical escorts. We also have a team of American helpers waiting for us in Orlando so that while visiting the parks the ratio of escorts to children is 1:1. All the escorts are volunteers who give up 10 days of their time to accompany the children.

A Dreamflight holiday provides the children with life-changing benefits. Many have never been away from home or their parents before and they gain a degree of independence not previously thought possible. Their self esteem grows as they are helped and encouraged to join in the many events and activities. For example, each year Dreamflight teaches a number of children to swim! By the end of the week most of them are riding on the fastest rollercoasters - and of course they make new and lasting friendships with others who have faced similar difficulties.
