More about Curry Circle

The Muslim Women’s launched the Curry Circle in December 2013, serving food every Thursday from 7pm to 8pm in Bradford. A second Curry Circle session was launched in August 2015, serving food every Monday from 7pm to 8pm in Keighley.

This is an initiative to help those less fortunate across the Bradford District, through providing a free hot curry on a weekly basis for homeless/destitute people.

The impact of the Government’s reform of the benefits system is likely to increase the risk of the most vulnerable households becoming homeless.

The new single payment could lead to a spike in homelessness through rent defaults among people who have difficulty managing their budgets and put them at risk of loan sharks and legal, very high interest lenders.

As a District with both high levels of inequality and deprivation and an ethnically and culturally diverse population, Bradford faces challenges to its aspirations to be a District where people from different communities get on well together and respect and celebrate their differences.

More than 140 children in Bradford from 73 families are officially classed as homeless, the figures come after a report released by homelessness charity Shelter, based on data from the Department for Communities and Local Government. Child poverty in Bradford is highly concentrated in a small number of wards in order of the highest number of children in poverty per ward these were: Bradford Moor, Little Horton, Bowling and Barkerend, Manningham, Tong, Toller, Great Horton and Keighley Central.

Demand for homelessness prevention and on the District’s statutory homelessness service has increased since 2009. Homelessness can cause a spiral of decline for those individuals and families affected if they are not supported effectively.
