More about City of Glasgow College - Nautical Faculty

The City of Glasgow College’s Nautical Faculty is located within the brand new, award winning Riverside Campus, on the River Clyde.

Glasgow has a long history of building ships and providing the expertise to the worldwide shipping industry. We are very proud to play our part in this history and this is reflected in the £50 million invested in the new Riverside Maritime Campus which was opened in August 2015.

The Faculty of Nautical Studies has strong business links across UK, Asia, Africa and the Americas, specifically in providing academic qualifications and mandatory safety training for engineering & deck
cadets, and marine industry professionals. City of Glasgow College is proud to work in partnership with maritime institutions across the world to deliver relevant, high quality training to established professionals in the industry as well as trainees starting their careers.

We are focused on preparing new entrants for the roles of Deck and Engineering Officers at sea and our courses are designed to reflect this.

We pride ourselves on working with industry by combining academic teaching with the practical aspects of a nautical career, hence, offering a real and tangible experience for our cadets. We have a large team of specialist staff who are committed to helping, supporting and encouraging our cadets to develop into competent professional merchant naval officers.

Our world-class facilities including High Voltage, Bridge, Engine Room and LICOS simulator suites, allowing students to get experience of what it is like to work on board ship. The installed simulator suite includes a full mission engine room simulator and four simulator labs for studying electronic navigation systems, GMDSS, liquid cargo handling and DP operations.

The workshop facilities, which have garnered interest from many establishments, also contain a 20 tonne engine which is a vital component in what is the most modern working engine room in the UK, if not Europe, underlining the World Class facilities which City of Glasgow College offers students wishing to become Marine Engineers.
