Chance - Cane and Canvas

Jakobus Durstewitz is a full time painter, musician, stage builder, actor, photograper... ...in one word: Artist. When he decided to take up rod building it had been clear from the very start that he wouldn't want to build the average machine made thing, but create something with a difference. At a very early stage (right after Jakobus had build his first planing former) he received a generous offer from a top-angler (who owns a serious "thicket" of high class cane rods) from Berkshire who's idea was it to found a company called "Chance", refferring to the famous movie with Peter Sellers and henceforth Jakobus was "Mr.Chance" the rod-builder. His friend in England concentrated on strategies - how to build up the business, thought up the design of some very special rod tapers - looking to find the "gap in the market". He also provided Jakobus with materials for the first few prototypes. It's been a very exciting time for both of them. As it turned out, Jakobus couldn't become a full time rod builder - his various other talents got in the way. So for now Jakobus is a hobby-rod maker who loves to build something special in his spare-time and for his friends only.
