CAPA - Cathedral Academy of Performing Arts

Cathedral Academy of Performing Arts (CAPA) is a partnership between Cathedral School-Wakefield’s School of the Arts and Ossett School and Sixth Form. CAPA provides unique Further Education Performing Arts training and education to students who are serious about pursuing a career in the arts. Formed in 2006, CAPA provides students with professional, intensive full-time Performing Arts training alongside the rigor of academic arts study.

Places are limited at CAPA to only 30 students per year. This ensures that every student gets the individual attention, tailor made training and extensive pastoral care, advice and guidance to ensure they fully achieve their full potential in the Arts. Students have a minimum of 25 hours contact time delivered by a highly experienced team of teachers, directors, choreographers, designers and musicians. Training is delivered in professional industry standard facilities, students gain extensive professional experience performing across the UK and gain experience working alongside a number of professional artists, companies and theatre venues.

In Dance students have daily technique classes including: Ballet, Contemporary (Cunningham and Release), Jazz and Urban. In Drama students study a range of Acting techniques and approaches and in Singing students develop technical skills.

Creative development is an essential part of the CAPA course and students study Choreography, Improvisation and Devised Theatre with the opportunity to gain experience in directing, composition, arranging and choreographing. Students own creative work is performed and assessed throughout the course.
