The Athletics Academy has been running in Canterbury for over 12years. It has worked with young athletes who have won county honours, gained national ranking, achieved international recognition and competed at the Olympics.

The Athletic academy is a unique opportunity to combine 6th form studies with a high level of athletic training. The Academy welcomes athletes with the ability and desire to achieve their goals.

The Academy has an outstanding £4 million sports centre and gym facility, providing top class equipment to support development.

The Program is tailored to suit individual athletes needs and work is done in collaboration with athletes personal coaches. A typical weeks training comprises of 5 training sessions per week, 3 track and 2 gym. Sessions inc. track, technical, hills, gym, weights, circuits and core stability, flexibility and balance and video analysis.

The athletes are supported on site by a sports physiotherapist and masseuse. There is also a professional strength and conditioning coach and a sports scientist. With opportunities to go to the University of Kent’s Sports Science lab. There are workshops in nutrition, hydration, psychology and lifestyle management skills.


Academy coaching staff are NGB qualified. Lead coach June Plews has over 15 years experience in working with athletes to international level and to top ten ranking. June coaches a variety of disciplines, with a speciality in sprints and hurdles. She is accompanied by many other talented coaches with different skills and disaplines.

Student successes include Jack Green who represented GB in the 2012 Olympics in 400m hurdles in addition to attaining Euro Junior and World Junior selection. Ryan Dynham, GB 400m hurdler; Montell Douglas, GB sprinter; Gary Carr Scottish international sprinter.
