More about Cambridge Sewing

About me: Tamsin

Growing up watching and learning my mother's amazing dressmaking skills I first sat behind a sewing machine at the age of 10.
I attended Derby college of higher education to study Textiles and fashion Design and a pattern cutting at Burton-on-Trent.

I worked for a company called Stewart Broughton's in Derbyshire which had various contracts with leading brands in the fashion industry. One of my favorites was working with Marks & Spencer, manufacturing ladies lingerie and nightwear, here I learned within the company, after receiving designs we took the designs to pattern, approve the end result, send the garments to production within the companies UK factories to be dispatched to all Marks & Spencer retail outlets around the UK.

I moved to various companies within girls and ladies fashion and soft furnishing and quilt design, designing and producing baby cot quilts and bumper sets and various other nursery goods made to order.

I moved to Cambridge and married, here I worked from home designing and making children's clothes supplying various outlets around Cambridge and Essex.

I decided to go into bridal retail, here I supplied brides and bridesmaids with beautiful gowns from various international suppliers. I also provided a bespoke made to measure service; bespoke gowns designed by the bride and myself and handmade onsite.

Having three children and a career break I really wanted to get back into doing what I Love to do, I would like to pass my sewing skills onto other's which is how Cambridge Sewing has come to life, I am very much enjoying this new venture and have loved meeting lots of lovely ladies and gent's who want to learn, I'm hoping to bring a relaxed atmosphere for those to learn their skills and creations, along with lots of fun.

Cambridge Sewing has now been running very successfully for 4 years

My philosophy in giving these courses is to give people confidence in their sewing to improve the knowledge of techniques but most of all to improve accuracy and neatness and give people pride in what they produce.
