More about Burnage Rugby Club

Burnage Rugby Club was founded as an old boys' club for ex-pupils of Burnage High School. In the 1970s we moved from our one pitch site on Queensway in Burnage, Manchester, to our beautiful green belt site in Heaton Mersey, Stockport where you can find us today. We have had our fair share of difficulties, including two recent fires which destroyed the club house and its temporary replacement respectively. Like the best Burnage teams though, the membership clubbed together to work their way out of trouble. Hard work on and off the field is beginning to pay dividends: we now have a comfortable and spacious club house, the largest artificial rugby pitch in the North of England, a 3G floodlit 5 a side football pitch, a pay and play 9 hole golf course, 2 large, well tended grass rugby pitches, overloooked by what must be the tallest posts in the county!

On the field the club is developing quickly. We field 4 senior teams: the 1st XV compete in National 3 North, the 2nd XV in the Bateman Premier League, the highest standard of 2nd team rugby available. The 3rd and 4th XV compete a little lower down the University of Salford league structure, still offering competitive league rugby throughout the season. We field a senior colts and are working hard on our junior rugby under the Burnage Barracudas name, currently fielding an U15 side in friendly fixtures.

The 2011-12 season marks our 75th year. There will be a number of events to celebrate our club's history this season.
