More about Broomfield South SILC

Broomfield South SILC is an all-age generic special school serving South Leeds. ‘SILC’ stands for ‘Specialist Inclusive Learning Centre’, meaning we are more than just a special school – we also have partnerships with a local primary and high school, and we offer support for special needs within our community.

We provide an inclusive setting operating on the main Broomfield site and at two mainstream partnership sites: Windmill Music Federation and Rodillian Academy. This enables us to meet a wide variety of pupils’ needs and to provide support and advice to the community.

Our strapline is ‘Investing in Individuals, Transforming Lives’ reflected in our aim to provide a nurturing and stimulating school environment in which all pupils are encouraged to adopt a healthy lifestyle and feel happy, safe and secure.

We have a very diverse population and are committed to ensuring equality of education and opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers receiving services from the school. Our pupils demonstrate a strong sense of community and fairness for all.

We endeavour to help our pupils take their place in society and be tolerant, understanding and respectful of the rights of others.

In return we expect pupils to work to the very best of their ability, in order to make the most of the opportunities that we offer. We believe in a personalised approach to enable all of our pupils to achieve their individual outcomes based on their aspirations for the future.

We are a growing and developing school. We have over 200 young people from 2-19 years on roll. We have recently undergone a programme of refurbishment including a new building that opened in September 2015, a community internet café, a health and beauty suite, a state-of-the art creative/sensory room, sunken trampolines and an outdoor inclusive adventure playground.

We are developing our potential and provision to not only improve the quality and standards for our pupils but to build on a longer term vision of providing bespoke resources for special needs throughout our community that could be potentially used all year round.

We operate as a school for 39 weeks of the year and offer a range of lunch time clubs and a play scheme in the Easter, summer and autumn half-term holidays.
