Bristol Academy of Drama

Welcome to Bristol Academy of Drama (B.A.D.). We are a children’s theatre group offering workshops and holiday clubs for children who want to learn about and engage in theatre and acting. Our focus is on straight drama, as opposed to musical theatre, although we enjoy movement and voice in our sessions.

The benefit of engagement with drama extends beyond the environment of theatre. Children will also increase their social skills by working as a team, learn to speak clearly, build creative thinking skills and self-confidence.

We also cater to those children who may not yet have the self-assurance to take centre stage, but enjoy performing, and by using mask and mime this can give them the composure to perform without the pressure of remembering lines or, with a mask, even having to be seen on stage. Once they get the bug there is usually no stopping them!

Currently we are offering half day workshops for ages 8-12 which will encourage performance skills through mask work. In our workshops we will introduce children to the stories of classic theatre and literature. By focusing on the story of these plays and allowing children to use their own words and imagination, they can bring these exciting stories to life in a modern and refreshing way. What child does not enjoy stories involving witches and battles, fairies and kings, lions and queens to name but a few.

We are looking to offer week long holiday clubs and Saturday session over a term building to a full performance. And for those a little too young to attend but enjoy stories, then we will be offering Storytelling for pre-school children. So if you are interested in any of these then please do get in touch.
