More about Brighton College

Founded in 1845, Brighton College is one of Britain's leading schools for pupils aged 11-18. It was named United Kingdom Independent School of the Year 2013-14, the third such accolade in as many years, after the Sunday Times School of the Year Award in 2011-12 and Tatler’s Head Master of the Year Award in 2012-13.

The influential Sunday Times Parent Power report named Brighton the top co-educational school in England for the second year running based on its A-Level and GCSE results: at A-Level, pupils gained 94% A* - B grades in 2014. while at GCSE, Brighton pupils achieved 91% of grades at A* or A. In January 2015, another 29 pupils received offers from Oxford or Cambridge, equalling the record set in 2014.

It is, however, the emphasis on excellent pastoral care, mutual respect and a warm and happy environment that most frequently draw comment from visitors. Described as “kind, tolerant and open-minded,” (Tatler), Brighton College pupils are happy and confident individuals who are encouraged to develop their interests while supporting each other and celebrating each others' successes.

Brighton places great emphasis on the ‘other half’ of a pupil’s education: the world beyond the classroom. We have excellent sports facilities and a number of pupils participate at county and national levels in rugby, netball, tennis, cricket, hockey, athletics and cross-country. We're home to the GB U17 200m record holder; our rugby 1st XV is unbeaten across Sussex and Hampshire; and our netball teams are currently Sussex and SISNA champions, to name but a few achievements this year. Provision for art, music, dance and drama is also exceptional with a new £8m music school opening in 2015 and a new Performing Arts hub well underway. Above all, we pride ourselves on leaving no one on the bench: the school’s focus is on everyone getting involved and enjoying a wide range of activities, whatever their ability.

With full and weekly boarding (the best of both worlds, go home Friday, return Sunday night or Monday morning) from age 13, we have a thriving boarding community. Boarding from the age of 11 is available at Handcross Park Prep School, part of the Brighton College family. Brighton College Pre-Prep and Prep Schools, for children aged 3-13, are situated nearby, and share many of the College's outstanding facilities.
