Virtual reality has been a long unfulfilled passion for us. We were, as many were, inspired by movies from the dawn of VR like the Lawnmower Man (1992) and others. Also with a history of development on Amiga computers going back 25 years we and others like us were experimenting with the new and (at the time) amazing technology . . . a long time ago. The Amiga was right in there at the birth of VR, for example the original Virtuality machines were powered by Amiga 3000s. And before that in 1988 using Amiga 2000s, there was a pattern recognition technology activated by people dancing around hitting bugs on a computer screen, which of course many years later became Sony's Eye Toy. This is way before Kinect was even a gleam in someone’s eye.

The problem always was that it was a concept waiting for the right hardware components, a solution waiting for a problem if you will. To have proper immersive virtual reality which you can believe in, you have to have hardware fast enough. The Amiga never quite had it, but it was a slightly laggy step in the right direction and if there had been enough interest it would have gotten there. But it wasn’t to be.

Eventually the right hardware components came along riding the wave of mobile phone technology development and a significant cost reduction for head tracking technology. On top of this the exponential growth in performance of computer GPU power for the creation of the virtual worlds is now available at a consumer level.

So buckle up because VR is now here and we want to help you get involved, whether your interest is in games, simulation, training or just experiencing something new and exciting.

Oh and you may notice occasional references to my favourite Amiga computers, which is okay because believe it or not they are still being developed!

Few people are happier about that than I am.
