Boscobel House and its famous Royal Oak tree are home to one of the most dramatic adventure stories in English history. Converted into a timber-framed hunting lodge in the 1620's by the Roman Catholic Giffard family, it was probably intended to be a hiding place for persecuted Catholics.
The house provided refuge for the young Charles II forces to flee for his life after defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. Guided tours of the house available.
