More about Battle of Britain Bunker, Uxbridge

The Battle of Britain Bunker at RAF Uxbridge was the operations centre for Fighter Command No.11 Group during the Second World War. It was responsible for coordinating the air defence of South-East England, including London, and played a significant role in the Battle of Britain and other RAF operations.

The Bunker housed No.11 Group's operations room, in which both friendly and hostile aircraft were tracked on the large plotting table and "tote" board. The information displayed on the table and board was used by the controller to make crucial decisions - when to scramble fighter planes, which type, how many, where to send them, etc. These decisions would decide the outcome of the Battle of Britain.

Today, the Battle of Britain Bunker exists exactly as it did during those fateful summer days of 1940. It is open to visitors during the week but visits must be booked in advance either by telephone - 01895 815400; or email - 11gpenquiries@btconnect.com
