Barnsley Youth Jazz Association

The Barnsley Youth Jazz Association (BYJA) aims to provide individual music tuition and performing experience through the Barnsley Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Barnsley Youth Swing Band for children aged 5-18 years at an affordable price.

We offer a very good value for money system using excellent, enthusiastic teachers and good quality instruments. We are confident that our services are difficult to beat locally.

BYJA loans pupils instruments, provides tuition at a significantly discounted rate and actively encourages it's members to achieve formally recognised music qualifications whilst having fun along the way.

When your child’s teacher believes that they have made sufficient progress all musicians will be invited and encouraged to play in one or more of our bands at no extra cost. Playing together is an important aspect of music, pupils’ progress quicker, make new friends and most importantly find learning fun.

We currently run 3 groups the Barnsley Youth Swing Band for our beginner musicians, the Barnsley Youth Jazz Orchestra for intermediate level musicians and the Dearne Big Band & Singers for our advanced musicians aged 18 and above.

We regularly hold concerts at local venues to give children the opportunity to perform on a regular basis.

The Dearne Big Band & Singers is the primary fundraiser for the Barnsley Youth Jazz Association.
