BAM - Basingstoke Network Rail Campus

BAM is constructing a signalling and training centre for Network Rail in the Wessex region. The building’s state-of-the-art technology will allow operators to control trains travelling between London Waterloo and the south coast.

The centre is one of 12 being built for Network Rail across the country, to eventually replace around 800 signal boxes and other operational locations.

It includes a new regional Workforce Development Centre (WDC), combining
maintenance and operational training, replacing a range of more localised and
restricted facilities; a new Rail Operating Centre, to consolidate all signalling and control for the route in one location; and a new Route Office, providing support services.

We will also build a new car park, recycling centre and external works including security and landscaping. BAM Nuttall will install the 60m long pedestrian bridge over the railway line to improve access routes.

The WDC provides internal training facilities for railway track and signals, as well as classrooms. Its most prominent feature, the internal track area, is located at the base of a three storey atrium and provides a visual expression of the businesses core function to trainees, visitors and employees.

In addition to this, there are teaching facilities for welding and an external track
training area.

Mechanical and electrical systems will ensure the centre can operate in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
