More about Ballymoney Museum

The permanent exhibition contains remarkable and unique artefacts associated with the colourful history of this region.

Visitors can see a selection of archaeological treasures that were discovered in the ancient landscape of North Antrim, beginning with the Derrykeighan Stone from which the museum takes its logo. Another major feature of the display is a selection of rare artefacts from the troubled days of the 1798 Rebellion. Exhibits from more recent times including cameras from the Corfield factory in Ballymoney, the only cameras ever made in Ireland. Finally, the exhibition concludes with the story of the motorcycle road racing in Ireland and local heroes Joey and Robert Dunlop

The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, often based on local history or showcasing talented artists. Combined with this are lectures, coach tours and seasonal activities for young people.

In our History Resource Area, film enthusiasts have free access to the vintage home movies of Charlie McAfee and the NI Screen Digital Film Archive (see http://www.digitalfilmarchive.net/dfa/). This area also holds information useful for genealogical research and the museum hosts the 'Route Back Home' family history conference every two years.
