THE NAME BABA JAGA..

Women were said to be witches because they were healers. It was primarily the women who tended to the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of their people. Often, women were the religious leaders of their tribes, guiding people through the different stages of their lives. The diverse abilities of women were thought to be sacred. These sacred female powers became personified into the figure of a goddess, a deity thought to be the mother of all life.



In Russian folklore there are many stories of Baba Jaga, the fearsome witch with iron teeth.
In some stories she has two older sisters, who are also called Baba Jaga, just to confuse you!
When a visitor enters her hut, (not too often) Baba Jaga asks them whether they came of their own free will, or whether they were sent. (One answer is the right one!)
she appears to have no power over the pure of heart, and shines light on there way,
she is mostly portrayed as a terrifying old crone, this story has been twisted in time to betray witches as evil and keep the governments we have today in power by taking the power away from the wise people we had trust in and betraying them as evil,
Baba Jaga is a helper and wise woman to the people
The Earth Mother, like all forces of nature, though often wild and untamed, she can also be kind.
In her guise as wise hag, she sometimes gives advice and magical gifts (crystals)
to heroes and the pure of heart for there journey
The hero or heroine of the story often enters the crone's domain searching for wisdom, knowledge and truth. She is all-knowing, all seeing and all-revealing to those who would dare to ask.
She is said to be a guardian spirit of the fountain of the Waters of Life and of Death.
Baba Jaga is the Arch-Crone, the Goddess of Wisdom and Death, the Bone Mother. Wild and untamable, she is a nature spirit bringing wisdom and death of ego, and through death, rebirth.
Those who judge one another on what they hear, and not on what they know of them in their hearts, are fools indeed!"
