On the 6th May 2011 the Ashmolean Museum Oxford will for the first time ever open its doors to the night and invite the Notting Hill Arts Club to host a party in its vaults.
The Ashmolean Museum is Britain’s oldest museum and as part of the Oxford University holds a position as one of the most important collections in the country. The original building was built in 1683 and as such has great presence and atmosphere; recently the Museum was given new life with the addition of a stunning new wing and a sunny rooftop restaurant. For the first time this beautiful building will host live music performance and art.
At the Ashmolean Late Night event the museum will reopen its doors at 6:30pm. The public are invited to view its main collection for free but with the Oxford Playhouse curating a live performance encompassing music song and dance in and amongst the ancient ruins of Greece and Rome. The rooftop restaurant will be transformed into a bar with DJ and visitors will be able to view the stunning HERCULES to ALEXANDER archeology exhibit at a concession entry price. At 10pm the doors to the downstairs vault will be opened and a lucky 300 will party the night away with the Notting Hill Arts Club.
The Notting Hill Arts Club is a small venue in west London dedicated to providing quality music and art to a discerning audience. For the Ashmolean Late Nights event the Arts Club will call on its friends from Oxford and London to provide a fitting end to a memorable event in a historic setting.
