3D Kernow

The joint effort of Louis Turner, Piran Angove and Sam Lanyon; 3D Kernow aims to speed Cornwall's acceptance of 3D Printing, while offering printing services to consumers and companies alike.

We will target creatives who work in three dimensions - potters, sculptors, jewellers, ceramicists etc - knowing that the Cornish creative cluster is one of the biggest in the UK. But we will also identify other parts of the Cornish economy, such as the yachting, the wider maritime sectors and tourism which should also benefit from the productive flexibility which this technology will bring.

We believe that 3D Printing is in roughly the position of personal computers in the early 1980s and of photocopiers in the mid-1960s. The potential is clear. Prices are relatively high, but falling fast. Where products are affordable (and some 3D Printing kit now sells in the £100-500 region), they don't always work straight out of the box. So, early adopters, working within a supportive community, have the opportunity to build a serious competitive lead over more cautious souls who will wait until the technology matures.

We aim to introduce site members to debates about the potential of 3D Printing, identify the products which are best suited to our communities, monitor emerging business and career opportunities and aim to build a supporting group of investors.

Our goal is to move Cornwall up the 3D Print learning curve ahead of other centres. We believe it will be possible to turn Cornwall into the leading British centre for Creative 3D Printing. Our ultimate goal is to help Cornwall establish a leading international reputation as well.
