University of Salford at MediaCityUK

MediaCityUK is one of the biggest things ever to happen to the media and digital sectors in the UK and in October 2011 the University of Salford opened its unique digital learning, teaching and research space right in the heart of it.

We are situated alongside six national BBC departments and hundreds of independent creative, digital and media organisations, and will soon be sharing our landmark building with ITV. Over 1,500 students and staff enjoy exceptional opportunities to work with media professionals using the very latest industry specified equipment, studios and labs.

As the only university with a permanent space at MediaCityUK, this places Salford graduates in prime position for digital and media careers.

Our production suites, studios and digital infrastructure have been informed and specified by the industry and can be adapted to new developments in this fast-paced sector.

In the building we have four floors with:

• HD TV studios
• Radio broadcast studios
• Digital media and performance labs
• Post-production suites
• An interactive digital exhibition space
• Meeting rooms

For current students
Over 1,500 Salford students and staff have moved to MediaCityUK and we know that you all want to know more about it. This Facebook page is dedicated to keeping you up to date with any new information, and we will also have someone in the know regularly checking the page to answer any questions you might have.

For the community
The University building is one of the few at MediaCityUK that has a space open for everyone to use. We kicked things off with our 'Believe' open day in October 2011, inviting the community to experience some of the amazing spaces and technology in our building, and we are developing an events schedule which will bring 30,000 people a year to MediaCityUK, Salford Quays and the surrounding area.

For researchers
Our world-leading facilities are used by Salford researchers to conduct innovative studies with global partners in industry and academia.

Our partners benefit both from our location at the heart of the creative industries and the state-of-the-art technologies in our new building at Media City.

And we’ve already established partnerships with major media organisations such as the BBC, BT and Avid, in order to maximise the opportunities to develop new products, technologies and ideas.

The business community at MediaCityUK and Salford Quays will be enhanced enormously by the huge range of consultancy, training and research which will be accessible through the University of Salford. All the equipment in our facility has been specified by industry to enable us to deliver real solutions.

What is MediaCityUK?
MediaCityUK is well on its way to becoming the home of the digital, creative and media industries in the UK. Located at Salford Quays – just over a mile from the University, an initial 36 acres will be occupied by six national BBC departments – including BBC Radio 5 Live, Children’s, Learning, Future Media & Technology, Sport and Breakfast, as well as the local services that are currently based in Manchester.

ITV will also be moving many of their operations into the same building occupied by the University of Salford.
