Since 1451 we have specialised in the arts, developing wide-ranging expertise and world-leading research. We are home to almost 5000 students from all over the world. History of Art at Glasgow was rated No.1 in the UK for research in 2008; seven more of our subjects are in the UK top 10 (Cultural Policy, Celtic and Gaelic, English Language, English Literature, Scottish Literature, HATII, Theatre & Film & TV) and five more in the UK top 20 (French, History, Music, Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies); we are currently no. 2 in the UK for Arts and Humanities Research Council grant income and in the top 10 for AHRC research studentships, while our National Student Survey results place us very close to the top of the Russell Group: in 2010, we had five No. 1 UK placings. Our students and researchers benefit from a groundbreaking partnership of mutual exchange and opportunity with Glasgow Life, responsible for the highest concentration of museums and galleries outside London. Globally, Glasgow is in the top 100 universities, and ranked 83rd for Arts and Humanities in the 2011 QS rankings.
