Twilight Herefords

Twilight Herefords was started in 1986 by Alan and Linda Gifford, built with a selection of traditional Hereford cattle mostly from F.M. Symonds Llandinabo herd. The herd was then expanded and had some showing success with Llandinabo Larry. In the mid 1990s the herd was then unfortunately sold with efforts directed into the dairy industry. Since then the dairy herd has been sold with a switch back to commercial and pedigree beef. In 2014 the decision was taken to get back into Herefords, mainly driven by there son Alex, who's passion and ambition for the breed is a major driving force in the enterprise today. So a selection of cows and a bull were purchased from Richard Websters paradise herd. Which has since been expanded with stock from Freetown, Anhay, Westwood, severnvale, black popular and some polled stock from lowesmoor and bromham. We are currently retaining most females due to herd expansion, however pedigree Hereford Bulls, of all ages, both horned, polled and pedigree Aberdeen Angus are generally for sale. The herd is fed mainly grass and silage, however a small amount of creep feed is offered to calves towards the end of the summer as grass depletes. Young bulls are fed on baled silage and a minimal amount of nuts and barley. All stock is regularly handled and excellent tempered. Which is one of the main attractions of the Hereford breed along with ease of calving and the ability to finish off grass, and of coarse the financial bonuses offered by abattoirs at the end. Freetown Hercules has made a tremendous step forward to the herd in by introducing size, shape and easy calving into the herd. Haven Hotspur has just been purchased to push the herd forward once again, he has done a tremendous job for the Vincent's pullham herd leaving them some excellent Bulls and females. Again, nice shaped cattle. He has also had a great showing career with them. Hercules will still run with half the herd and is still highly valued by Us. A small pedigree Aberdeen Angus herd is also ran alongside the herefords with male and female stock always for sale.
