We welcome students from age 4 up to adult. Families are encouraged to join and train together. We try and focus on giving the children a fun and enjoyable training session with plenty of variation that will develop their skills such as confidence, discipline, concentration and self awareness. They will also make lots of new friends and improve their social skills! For adults, Karate is obviously useful as a form of self defence, but is also excellent for fitness and mental agility. Above all, Karate is great fun!

Tiverton Shotokan Karate Club has been established for over 30 years, and also incorporates Willand Karate Academy. Sensei Andy Purrington 4th Dan has been running the club for over 15 years and is a recognised KUGB senior instructor and competition referee. His extensive knowledge of Karate-Do is equally as impressive as his highly enjoyable teaching style as any of his students will attest to!

There are various styles of Karate and Shotokan is the most widely practiced style in the world. We have a grading scheme in place with the KUGB who are the single largest Martial Arts organisation in the UK. Every three months, students that are deemed ready by Tiverton Shotokan Karate Club are assessed for their next belt by the KUGB's chief examiner, Sensei Andy Sherry, 9th Dan.
