Once the last pub when leaving Bristol on the old road to Wales, The White Bear address has been frequented by local residents, merchants and passers-by for over 250 years. Situated on the peak of St Michael’s Hill, it has always been a popular choice for those wishing to grab a freshly cooked meal washed down with a pint of real ale or cider.
In that respect, not that much has changed. Aesthetically however, we have recently made some big changes.
A micro theatre, The Room Above, hosted by our very own ensemble. Only open one month, our boards have played host to a myriad of plays and performance including a soap opera, musicians in a broom cupboard, Bristol comedy king, Mark Olver, and the big guns of Russell Howard.
Our new Kitchen presents lovingly hand-made pub classics and seasonal special.
We stripped the pub back to its ‘Bear necessities’ and gave the entire a venue a majestic new colour scheme, highlighted with designer wallpapers, bespoke lighting, vintage furniture, retreated floors and selected hangings from local artists.
The White Bear also boasts a spacious and partially covered courtyard that is heated during the colder months as well as playing host to a number of BBQs in the Summer time.
