What attractions and activities does SPCarnival Day present?
Local Sound systems throughout the site play Afro Centric/ World music into the early hours. A well attended Procession of local, National and school carnival groups feature themed costumes and music. The Green Stage presents a headliner & supporting music and performance groups throughout the afternoon and into the evening. SPCarnival t-shirts, other fundraising merchandise and information brochures are available at our hospitality tent here. Mandela’s Hideaway in St Agnes Park this family focused area showcases creative and interactive activities which compliment the Carnival’s theme. An adventure playground provides a sheltered family and children’s area away from Carnivals thriving hubbub. The Spoken word area provides a space for the written, spoken and acoustic aspects of the arts; opportunities for performance and participation. Carnival Village in Portland Square indicates the start & finish of the Carnival procession. Retail and Charity information stalls are established here. Portland Square stage, this second staging area presents diverse arts, entertainment and music. Food and retail stalls line the main strip through the heart of the carnival site on Grosvenor Road. Mas Camps are a pre carnival activity which facilitates the creation of carnival costumes it is open to anyone who is interested- no skill required. Fringe events are organised by bodies working in collaboration with and promoted by SPC these take place through the summer at various venues.
