Sha'arei Tsedek North London Reform Synagogue

At Sha’arei Tsedek: North London Reform Synagogue we pride ourselves on our reputation of being a forward looking, dynamic, inclusive and welcoming congregation with a strong ethos of engagement with the secular as well as the Jewish world.

Since its inception in 1961 as Southgate & District Reform Synagogue by a handful of interested families, Sha’arei Tsedek has grown into a substantial community of approximately 1000 adults and children, with a team of two Rabbis.

We have traveled from Winchmore Hill and then to Southgate before moving to our current site several years ago.

Our friendly services and wide range of activities are designed to suit all ages. These include our highly rated Alonim kindergarten, Mishpacha (family) activities, Koleinu band, football team, youth club, Lunch and Chat for the less young, many social events and activities, religion school and an adult study programme as well as interfaith activities. We pride ourselves on our friendliness, providing something for everyone!

Sha’arei Tsedek is very proud of our Kindergarten, Alonim, which was assessed as Outstanding in 2012 by OFSTED. In addition we have a professionally staffed Religion School, a Director of Music and administrative staff.

We depend heavily on members of the community to volunteer their time to support the work of the synagogue and have a strong team of lay leaders who work alongside our rabbis to meet the religious needs of all our congregants. There are also teams of volunteers who provide essential support to those members who are ill or in difficulties, who provide regular lunches and social activities for older members, who arrange Shabbat and festival services for families with young children, who support the work of our administrative staff, arrange social and cultural events, sell Judaica and gifts, run a film club, maintain the website, sing in the choir, mentor new members and maintain the building.
