SAFAD

Silsoe Aid for Appropriate Development, or SAFAD, is a British charity run by students at Cranfield University. SAFAD has sent over 340 Cranfield graduates to almost 40 different countries in the developing world since 1969. Each year, student volunteers work with local organisations to help provide training and expertise in areas such as water, soil and environmental sciences, engineering, management and health.

SAFAD aims to help relieve poverty by promoting appropriate development, community participation and capacity building to create sustainable livelihoods. In order to do this, SAFAD funds volunteers to work with local NGOs and communities, using the technical knowledge acquired during their post-graduate work at Cranfield. The volunteers, in turn, gain experience through their work.
