More about PubWithNoName

Hidden amongst the luscious green countryside and winding lanes, surrounded by trees in the middle of a field lies our charming little country pub. Traditionally a coaching Inn, on the main route from Portsmouth to Alton, it was a stop off point for a refreshing beverage and a change of coach tyres, but during the Napoleonic war the road was then straightened to speed up transportation which left the pub in its obscure location it is today.

This treasured little pub has choice bursting at the seams. Once you have chosen one of the two cosy little bars in this once medieval farmhouse, your attention will then be focused on our bar which offers a sweetshop selection of ales, local ciders and Gales fruit wines to choose from (and soft drinks too of course). We have a line up of 10 real ales for the ambitious ale drinkers, and a fine selection of handpicked wines.

If you decide to dine with us, then we are able to offer you a fresh and locally sourced menu. We have a wide choice for every appetite from your familial pub favourites including a hearty steak and ale pie to something a little finer like a wild mushroom and truffle oil risotto if you’re feeling fancy.

Our one claim to fame is the poet, essayist and country writer Edward Thomas. Born in 1878 in London, and died in action in 1917 at the Battle of Arras.
Edward Thomas didn't become a poet until he lived in Steep in 1914, where he used to trek up the shoulder of mutton up to the White Horse where he wrote his longest poem ‘Up In The Wind’ about the pub itself. Our Edward Thomas bar, which is situated in the oldest part of the pub, holds a corner devoted to him. A carved wooden plaque to mark the poets birth centenary, and a copy of ‘Up In The Wind’.

A small country pub we may be, but a very busy one at that. We hold many events throughout the year including public and private events. Our Biggest event we hold, is our Longest Day Beer Festival which takes place over four days around the longest day in June. With over 100 real ales, live music and camping, what better way is there to spend the longest day of the year?

Bonfire Night at the No Name is a spectacular evening, with an extravagant fireworks display, a roaring bonfire and plenty of Mulled Wine and Toffee Apples to indulge in.

We cater for private functions also, including wedding and parties. The unspoilt views and traditional country pub are a perfect setting for your special day.

The story of our missing sign is an intriguing mystery to all who visit, but I shan't ruin the story for you now, for its best to hear it when you are stood in the atmosphere of our historic and rustic old pub, a heavenly place to be for the traditional country pub goer.
