More about Port Of Call

Welcome to the Port of Call, a purpose built brand new bar and eatery built for the City of Sunderland by owners who have lived in Sunderland all their lives and appreciate what a vibrant, exciting city it can be.

Sunderland has a proud tradition of ship building, at one point it was the largest ship building port in the world. The Port of Call has paid homage to this with an industrial feel to the build whilst at the same time looking to the future with a exciting opulent design, unlike anything that Sunderland has seen before.

The Port of Call is a venue of luxury and comfort for people who like to make the most of their leisure time. With a menu of fresh, high quality meat and seafood, it will be the ideal location to meet potential business clients to impress, for special occasions or just to meet friends for lunch. Food will be served late into evening where the night drifts seamlessly into the early hours fuelled by original rum inspired cocktails and craft beers.

The build….

Having decided to start again, the original building was demolished in August 2014 and is being replaced by a brand new contemporary three storey building which still retains the balance between the unfinished industrial look while posing some degree of elegance to the guests.

This new build design is aimed at putting comfort alongside style and simplicity. While those at eye level will be enjoying the plush comfort of deep buttoned seating booths and subtle lighting throughout, those over the ground and first floors, patrons will be enveloped by the industrial features of the building. The building will 'tip its cap' to the shipbuilding heritage of Sunderland whilst offering comfort for patrons.

There will be a defined but seamless space on the ground floor that will extend from the open kitchen and main dining area, resulting in one fluid room where people can enjoy their privacy but are only steps away from joining the party. There is equally going to be a secret garden out to the rear of the ground floor, tucked away from the hustle and bustle; full of charm and sheltered from the elements.

The beautiful industrial steel and timber stair which rises through all the three floors will embellish the bare brick walls and dark wooden surfaces with dimmed mood lighting. There will be a feeling of sophistication on the 2nd floor beyond the rigours of the industrial 'shipyard' slightly different from to the interior.

An undoubted draw to the building will be the external terraces; While the first and second floors boast fantastic outside terraces overlooking Park Lane and beyond, there will be a ground level pavement café facing the south. Glass and steel balustrade to the perimeter of the terraces only lend to the contemporary approach of the building.
