Old Stables

Historically, and as the name suggests, The Old Stables was utilised as one of the two horse stables that served the traditional Towneley family. Although little evidence exists to pinpoint the exact date of construction, historians believe that the building was erected sometime in the 16th Century. In 1904, the park and surrounding estates were opened to the public for the very first time. It was sometime after this that the building was converted into a small cafe serving the visitors of the park and tourists of Towneley Hall. Since then, the cafe has changed owners many times and was even closed during several long periods of time.

The current owners took control over a very much neglected premises in early 2000, and set out to restore the interior of this glorious gem into a cafe that reflected the extraordinary history and picturesque surroundings of the building. With a large amount of investment and with the aid of a Heritage Lottery grant awarded in 2005, the building has now been transformed into delightful cafe oozing charm and character. The café is nestled in the beautiful grounds of Towneley Park, and only a stone throw away from the magnificent Towneley hall. Looking out on to the pond and the rolling hills of Lancashire, the café provides the perfect location to relax and unwind with a hot drink and a vast array of delicious homemade food and tantalising treats.
