North Lincolnshire Music Centre

Most children start off in the First String Orchestra or First Concert Band by teacher recommendation, the only requirement being that they be of approximately grade one standard on their instrument. Progress through the groups after this is by teacher recommendation or an audition.

Grade three standard is required for String players to progress to the Youth String Ensemble, Grade four standard or above for wind players and percussionists for the Swing Band and Youth Concert Band, then Grade five or above for the Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The members of the Youth Concert Band, Youth Symphony Orchestra and Youth Swing Band have the opportunity, every two years to travel abroad and perform on musical tours. There are also opportunities to go on residential courses.

The Youth Swing Band rehearses on Wednesday evenings at Frederick Gough School from 5pm until 6.30pm. It performs around the North Lincolnshire area and in the community at special events whenever possible.
