Soft tissue treatments can be used effectively after the initial 48 hour acute injury stage to assist in regaining mobility and aid healing to the injury in a shorter timescale. For chronic injuries massage treatments can be beneficial in causing tight muscles to relax to their normal resting length, this can increase range of movement and help reduce pain.
