Lichfield Operatic Society Official

The present Lichfield Operatic Society began in 1942, although as long ago as 1896 a Lichfield Amateur Operatic Society, with a very successful record of productions, existed until 1912 when the loss of a suitable venue brought it to an untimely end.

The first production of the present Society was ‘Merrie England’ in 1943, since when we have performed 98 shows up to December 2003.

On 9th November 1943 the Society joined NODA.

All productions since Autumn 2003 have been performed at the LichfieldGarrick, which opened in July 2003 after two years of building work. Complete with recently refurbished raked seating, this proved to be an excellent alternative venue.

We welcome new members to either perform on stage (singing, dancing and acting) or help backstage during a production. On Monday evenings we rehearse at The Martin Heath Hall, Christ Church Lane, Lichfield from 7.30pm and principals rehearse also on Thursday evenings at Lichfield F.C., Brownsfield Park, Brownsfield Road (off Eastern Avenue) Lichfield WS13 6AY.

We have acquired a first class reputation over the years for achieving a professional standard.

We were winners of the Lichfield Garrick Friends Award and the NODA West Midlands Regional Award for Best Amateur Musical Production in 2010 for Jekyll & Hyde.
