More about Hear in the Community

"The trick to problem solving is to get to the root of a problem before it shows up."

A baby's heaing can be measured at just a few days old: young children undergo a hearing test at school and some professionals require regular hearing checks.

Whilst it is likely your hearing is perfectly OK and will remain so for much of your life, most of us will experience a reduction in hearing as we age - who knows when?

Glasses have become acceptable, improving vision almost instantly but our sense of hearing is far more complicated. Changes to our hearing are usually very slow; often going undetected for many years. By the time the need for help is accepted, our hearing could be far worse than we realise.

The mechanism of hearing is a telephone line between the outside world and our brain and mind. If less information is 'heard', we lose some ability to listen and understand. A reduction in these skills can leave us feeling isolated and anxious leading to depression.

"When your sight begins to change, you lose touch with things. If your hearing starts to go, you lose touch with people."

Routine Hearing Checks throughout our adult lives will detect subtle changes in our hearing and highlight the most appropriate time to get help - before we begin to struggle. Our quality of life can be maintained by the ability to carry on listening as well as we can hear.

That's why it's just wise to get your hearing checked, routinely.
