More about Hands On Sports & Remedial Massage

Why Sports & Remedial Massage Therapy?
SRMT has many benefits and is not restricted to athletes and avid sports participants. SRMT can also benefit those who have muscular imbalances from repetitive work patterns or poor posture.

As a qualified therapist I treat people from a range of backgrounds, from runners to horse riders and trades people to office workers, and adapt my practice accordingly.

A full postural assessment and consultation will indicate areas of dysfunction and/or tension that if left can begin to accumulate into injury. By identifying tension, trauma and adhesions, a number of appropriate methods can be implemented to treat the soft tissue.

The aims of the treatments include:
Injury prevention
Increased range of motion
Release of tension and stress
Reduction of scar tissue
Reduction of muscle stiffness
Increased injury recovery process
Increased blood circulation and lymphatic flow
Restoration of muscle length and balance
Improvement of posture
Improvement of flexibility
Enhanced performance

What Hands On Therapy offers and what to expect?

The first session lasts around 90 minutes and includes a full postural and range of motion assessment. A variety of muscles and muscle groups will be tested and we will discuss any areas of pain or discomfort. The massage will then be focused on these areas to provide the client with some relief of restriction and/or pain.

Follow up sessions are 60mins and over the course of treatment/s we will identify the cause of discomforts, this is often in an area that appears unrelated. In addition, aftercare advice is providing along with exercises to assist in balancing the muscle tone and improving posture and range of motion.

Pre event massage is a great way to warm up for an event and takes on 15mins. Its awakens the nervous system, increases the blood flow and flexibility, and helps prepare and focus the mind.

Post event massages are 30 mins and can be offered within 72 hours of the activity. Post event massage is excellent for decreasing delayed onset of muscle soreness (DOMs) by encouraging the removal of toxins and lactic acid in the body. This in turn prevents stiffness so that activity can be resumed with less reduction in performance. If applied soon after the event the massage can be incorporated as part of the warm down.
