Textiles at Carmarthen School of Art

The BA Textiles: Knit, Weave & Mixed Media course is a dynamic, challenging and creative course run by tutors who are recognised specialists in their field. The course content has been devised in response to contemporary textiles and mixed media practice within an ever-evolving cultural and industrial landscape. We aim for our students to graduate with exemplary bodies of work that will lead into rewarding jobs, self-employment or higher academic study.
The programme has a strong emphasis on constructed textiles (weave and knit) but this is supported by a mixed media ethos. You undertake modules in digital design processes, developing drawing for textiles, enterprise and critical and contextual studies, all of which underpin textile design and processes.

Projects across the first and second year of study span interior, fashion and applied art outcomes. National and international competition and live project briefs are a vital component of the course giving real professional and entrepreneurial experience, as well as the opportunity to win prizes, exhibition opportunities and work placements. The final year of study is entirely self-directed, allowing students create a personal body of work which demonstrates individuality, innovation and flair. The course prides itself on not having a âhouse styleâ: all students are treated as individuals and are encouraged to create work that is reflective of their unique interests and aspirations.

All students, whether full or part time have a dedicated work space within a well-equipped, light and airy studio. Class sizes are small thus allowing for a high level of tutor interaction and easy access to machinery and resources. We aim to help you realise your full potential within a supportive, friendly, nurturing and creative working environment.

Mae prosiectau'r flwyddyn gyntaf a'r ail flwyddyn o astudio yn rhychwantu darnau mewnol, ffasiwn a chelf gymhwysol. Mae cystadlaethau cenedlaethol a rhyngwladol a briffiau prosiect byw yn gydran hanfodol o'r cwrs gan roi profiad proffesiynol ac entrepreneuraidd go iawn, yn ogystal â chyfleoedd i ennill gwobrau, cyfleoedd arddangos a lleoliadau gwaith. Mae’r flwyddyn astudio olaf yn caniatáu i chi greu corff personol o waith sy'n dangos unigolrwydd, arloesedd a dawn.
