More about Bee Sporty

Our Classes:

Our classes are held on a Monday afternoon in Viewpark Parish Church Hall at the following times:

Mini Bees (ages 2 - 3.5 years) 2.30pm session length: 50mins
Junior Bees (ages 3.5 – 5 years) 3.30pm session length: 55mins
Active Bees (ages 5-7 years) 4.30pm session length: 55mins

Bee Sporty classes are aimed at children aged between 2 and 7 and are designed to develop your child’s movement skills. The classes will involve fun activities and games which focus on key movements for each age group. The program is focused on core skills such as agility and balance, so each week we will focus on a particular skill.

We will have a warm up exercise before playing games and activities that will help to develop that week’s skill. The games are designed to be fun and engage your child’s active imagination. For example, when focussing on balance, your child might be a giant using stepping stones to cross a fast flowing river, or a pirate walking the plank, avoiding the hungry crocodiles below. You may recognise some of the games from your own childhood- classic games such as ‘Simon Says’ or ‘Whats the Time Mr Wolf’ can be used to develop your child’s movement skills.

Not only will the classes help to improve your child’s movement skills, they will help to develop key personal skills. At every age we will develop confidence and social skills. At the older levels your child will also develop skills such as teamwork and decision making.

Above all our classes should be enjoyable- we want your child to leave our class with a smile on their face, having had lots and lots of fun. Bee Sporty classes teach children from an early age that physical activity is fun. We believe that a positive attitude towards physical activity will enable your child to go on to develop strong sports specific skills as they get older.

About us:

As parents to a very active and energetic toddler, the idea for Bee Sporty came about through our discussions about the need to provide physical stimulation for young children and encourage that active side of our son’s nature in an appropriate environment (as opposed to him just running wild round our living room!) We want to harness that energy and enthusiasm and help to develop the movement skills that will allow him to go on to play sports or pursue other active hobbies when he is older.

We feel this is an important step in the development of any young child, and one that, through his background in sports, our head coach and founder Jay was particularly passionate about.

Jay has years of experience in the sports industry. Having studied Sports Coaching and Development at college, Jay has worked in the sports development industry for over 10 years and currently works at Basketball Scotland. Jay has experience coaching children in a number of sports and has played and coached basketball at international level. He has a host of coaching qualifications including being a qualified Movement Skills coach.

Jay has combined his knowledge of sports coaching with his experience as a dad to design a program that will encourage your child’s movement skills and above all be great fun!
