More about Base Muay Thai

Bobby Quinn started his Muay Thai career in 1991. At the late age of 30 and after many years working as a taxi driver, Bobby decided it was time to get up off his bum and join a club, basically just to get a bit fitter. He and a couple of mates joined Sitnarong (Paisley). The club was instructed by Kru John Craig, one of the pioneers of Muay Thai in Scotland.

Training was hard but very rewarding and after 2 years training Bobby gave up his job to train full time and hopefully become an instructor. After another 2 years of training and being graded by Master Sken and Sandy Holt, Bobby was due to start his own club in East Kilbride. Things were looking good, Bobby was to sit his red Khan on the Sunday and the club was to open on the Monday....then disaster struck, while practising for his grade exam on the Friday, he dislocated his knee. Things looked bad having a full plaster on for six weeks. Bobby thought this was the end of his short career, but due to John Craig's belief in him and dragging him to training, a year later he opened his first club in Cumbernauld. Over the coming years more clubs were established in Stirling, Grangemouth and Falkirk.

After 10 years training with John, Bobby moved on to form the Scottish Thai Boxing Association along with John O'Brien and Alan Currie.

Bobby is now the proud owner of the very successful Base Muay Thai gym in Longcroft, and has turned out fighters such as Alex Sneddon, Scott Robertson, Matt Duncan, Rab Burt and many more. The gym has had fighters of the highest calibre winning World, British and Scottish titles.

Bobby would like to thank his partner Eileen and their daughters Amanda and Sinead for their continued support. John Craig, Master Sken and Sandy Holt for their knowledge. His training partners at Siam Dornadair, Alan Currie and Bobby Thomson. Mick Johnston and Tommy Ross, who have been with him from day one. Steven Grant, Sean McCormick and the rest of the crew for all their hard work in getting the new gym up and running. And a special thanks to the one and only John O'Brien for all he has done for Bobby, his family and Muay Thai boxing over the years.

Thank you all.
