More about BA Drama & Performance, University of Worcester

This creative and academic programme allows you to focus on areas of particular interest whilst developing a deeper and real understanding of drama and performance. Throughout the degree the emphasis is placed on learning through practice. Teaching takes place in well-equipped drama, dance and music studios and there are many opportunities for public performance.

In the first year there are two mandatory modules: Making Performance (which focuses on the processes of creating original work through devising and the use of production and scenographic skills) and Staging Plays (which focuses on exploring existing plays through practical work as well as understanding their social and historical context). There are then a range of optional modules including singing, acting, puppetry, maskwork and European theatre practices and theatre in the community.
The second year focuses on the development of a major public production in which students not only perform but learn about all aspects of production - lighting, sound, movement, vocal work, stage management, publicity etc. There are then a range of optional modules that extent understanding of devising practices, plays and playwrights and applied theatre practices, as well as additional optional skill based modules in dance, choreography, digital media, and playwrighting amongst others.

The third year encourages students to broaden their understanding of theatre and performance through a wide range of optional modules including staging Shakespeare today, new writing, site-specific performance, contemporary performance practices, theatre in education, theatre for young audiences, theatre and disability, and sexuality in performance, amongst others. Students also deepen their understanding of an area of specific individual interest through an independent research project or a final performance project.
