Association and Committee 1862 City of Carlisle Squadron RAF Air Cadets

1862 (City of Carlisle) Squadron is part of the Air Training Corp which together with the Combined Cadet Forces makes the Air Cadet Organisation. We are a formally appointed Uniformed Youth Organisation which forms part of the Royal Air Force. We were formally established by Royal Warrant from HRH King George VI in 1941 and are still governed by the aims set out in the warrant today.

Most importantly is that 1862 (City of Carlisle) Squadron is a charity. Although we are supported by the Royal Air Force, our training programme is not fully funded. The MOD formally sponsors the Squadron Buildings, Utilities and service activities which include Flying, Gliding and Shooting. This constitutes to only 3 of the 13 core activities the Air Cadet Organisation strives to deliver as part of the cadet experience. We therefore rely on additional funds raised and administered by the Squadron’s Association and Committee.

The purpose of the Squadron Association is to fully support the Squadron Commander to further the deliver the aims of the Air Cadets. They are the life blood of the organisation as the Squadron cannot function without a strong association and committee.

The Squadron’s Association is made up of Cadet’s Parents and Guardians, local RAFA Branch members, representatives of companies or businesses within the local community or be an individual experienced in working with young people within the local community; subject to meeting eligibility criteria
